Sony Proposes 1D Curved Sensor for Copy Machines

Sony patent application US20170323915 "Semiconductor device and method of manufacturing the same, semiconductor module, and electronic device" by Kiyohisa Tanaka finds another application for curved sensors - improving the resolution of copy machines and document scanners. The big advantage of this application is that it should not support optical zoom:

  1. Surely there could be a better title for such patents?
    "Semiconductor device and method of manufacturing the same, semiconductor module, and electronic device", doesn't partitularly key in with the advancement of curved sensors and is entirely generic on all counts.

  2. I agree with you Mr Fisher but believe me they know exactly what they are doing. Patent experts craft them deliberatly using such language so that they can have as broad a scope as legally possible and even some how cover applications areas not originally intended by the inventor. There is indeed method in their seeming madness!
